7 Tips to Save for Your Upcoming Senior Photoshoot

You’ve been looking forward to your senior photo session for ages, so naturally, you want it to go perfectly.

While it’s important to understand that you can’t always control every possibility, there are a few tips you can apply to have the best session possible.

  1. Throw Those Fashion Trends Out the Window

You want to feel beautiful and comfortable during your professional photo session, so choose your outfit accordingly. You don’t need to force an outfit because you think it will look good in your photos. Rather choose an outfit that you really feel good in and that you know fits you well.

  1. Take Care of the Smaller Details

Along with choosing the right outfit, you also want to look your best in general. A day or two before your photo session, go and have your nails done, shave, book a facial, have a spray tan – anything that will make you feel your best. Just be wary though – if you haven’t tried something like spray tanning or specific skin products before, this might not be the time to do it because you don’t know how your skin will react.

  1. Find a Makeup Artist Who Matches Your Style

Did a friend recommend a makeup artist or hairstylist to you? This doesn’t mean you need to go with them. It’s really important to find someone who matches your style. Someone who will understand what you want and be able to deliver. If a makeup artist or hairstylist is forcing their suggestions on you, rather search for someone else.

  1. Blemishes Are Not a Biggie

Waking up with a blemish or two on your face isn’t ideal, but this doesn’t mean you need to reschedule your entire shoot. Along with makeup, your photographer can also help cover up any blemishes you are feeling self-conscious about.

  1. Make It Personal

This photo session is all about you, so make sure your photos tell your story. There are no rules when it comes to senior portraits; they can be anything you want them to be. Whether you want a few simple photos in your garden or you want to showcase your musical talents, make this a session that means something to you.

  1. Practice Those Poses

Feeling nervous about being in front of a camera? Use your mirror to practice posing and smiling. You may feel silly at first but knowing which poses and facial expressions make you feel comfortable will help you feel more confident in front of the camera on the day.

  1. Bring Someone Along

Speaking of nerves. If having a friend or family member there with you will make you feel more at ease, bring them along. It’s best not to bring too many people with you or you could end up feeling awkward or distracted.

Your senior photo session shouldn’t be seen as another thing that you HAVE to do – it should be a fun and enjoyable experience, so find a photographer you click with and make the most of this important year.
