A Guy's Guide to Enjoying a Senior Photography Session

A Guy’s Guide to Enjoying a Senior Photography Session

It’s one thing to take a few selfies on your phone and another to pose in front of a professional photographer.

There’s no need to feel nervous or skip your senior photos though – these tips were specifically crafted for guys who want to make sure they enjoy their session as much as possible.

  • Posing doesn’t have to be complicated. When it comes to how to pose for your senior portraits, don’t overthink it. All you need to remember is to maintain a good posture and to have fun so that your smile looks natural. Your photographer will be there to guide you on the rest.
  • Choose a familiar location. If you are feeling really nervous about your upcoming shoot, choose a location you’re familiar with. You can also opt for a more private setting if you would prefer to not be around a lot of other people. And if you want to take it a step further, visit your location ahead of time so that you know what to expect.
  • Use that mirror at home. Another way to feel more comfortable on the day of your senior shoot is to practice posing and smiling in front of a mirror. It may feel awkward at first, but go with it, you will soon discover what works for you and makes you feel good.
  • Focus on your best features. What do you like about yourself? Perhaps it’s your eyes or maybe it’s your jawline. Speak to your photographer about the features you want to highlight so that you love your photos even more.
  • Feel free to move around. Every shoot is different and there is no rule that says you need to stand still and pose in all of your photos. If you want to move around and laugh because it will make you feel more comfortable, do so. Just discuss your preferences with your photographer ahead of time.
  • Hold something. Many guys complain about not knowing what to do with their hands during their photos. Again, don’t overthink it. In most cases, your hands will naturally find a place at your side. If not, you can always place them in your pockets or even hold something for some of your more posed shots.

With these tips in mind, there’s no reason why you can’t have an amazing experience. And once you see the results of your photoshoot, you’ll be glad you went through with it.
