About Steve

The Person Behind the Lens.

A lifetime of photography, experience, and perspective brought together to create photographs that mean something.

Behind BTL Images

Photography Has Been Part of My Life for Most of It.

My relationship with photography began when I was fourteen years old. What started as an interest in creating photographs became a lifelong pursuit of understanding light, composition, people, and visual storytelling.

Decades later, that curiosity is still at the heart of what I do.

My Story

A Lifetime Behind the Camera.

Photography has taken me through many different chapters of life and exposed me to an incredible range of people, places, and experiences.

My path included service in the U.S. Air Force, formal photography education, and years of professional photography experience.

Each chapter taught me something different: discipline, preparation, communication, patience, and the importance of being ready when the moment happens.

Those lessons continue to influence the way I approach every person I photograph today.

Professional Experience

Experience Matters.

Photography is both an art and a craft. Years of experience have taught me that technical knowledge matters—but knowing how to work with people matters just as much.

My Photography Philosophy

I Don't Believe in Cookie-Cutter Photography.

No two people are alike, so I don't believe their photographs should be either.

The best photographs happen when the person in front of the camera feels comfortable enough to stop thinking about the camera and simply be themselves.

My job is to understand the person in front of my lens, provide direction when it's needed, recognize authentic moments, and create images that feel true to who they are.

The best photographs don't just show what someone looks like. They reveal something about who they are.
What I Believe

The Person Always Comes First.

Whether I'm photographing a senior preparing for the next chapter of their life or an athlete who has spent years developing their craft, the person is always more important than the photograph.

A camera can capture a face. My responsibility is to capture something more—a sense of personality, confidence, accomplishment, or character.

That's what makes a photograph worth keeping.

My Approach

Personal. Intentional. Timeless.

Personal

I take the time to understand the person I'm photographing rather than forcing everyone into the same formula.

Intentional

Every photograph should have a purpose. I look for the right light, composition, expression, and moment.

Timeless

Trends come and go. My goal is to create photographs that you'll still love years from now.

Why I Still Do This

Because the Photograph Becomes Part of the Story.

Years from now, the session itself will become a memory. The photographs will be what brings that memory back.

That's why I take what I do seriously.

My goal isn't simply to create a good photograph. It's to create something that has meaning long after the session is over.

Behind the Lens

Let's Create Something Worth Remembering.

Whether you're planning senior portraits, athlete portraits, or sports photography, I'd love to hear what you're envisioning.
