Why Is My Senior Session So Expensive?

When you first start shopping around for a professional photographer, you might be surprised at the cost.

In fact, many parents and seniors start to reconsider whether a professional photo session is really necessary all because of the price.

However, before you adopt the same opinion, let’s take a closer look at what the cost of a professional photoshoot is made up of.

  • A photoshoot takes time. Photography is a time-based service. Yes, you could opt for a mini session, which takes no more than 30 minutes, but a full senior photo session can run up to 90 minutes. However, your photographer’s time doesn’t end at the shoot. They still need to get to and from your location and spend time selecting and editing your photos. 
  • A photographer needs professional equipment. Professional photography equipment costs money, not only to buy but to maintain. What’s more, a typical photographer owns more than just a basic camera. Lenses, flashes, and even a computer that can process large images are all necessary to pursue this as a profession.
  • Expertise and experience. Then there’s your photographer’s experience. If you want high-quality, creative shots, you want to work with a photographer who has the necessary experience, not just behind the camera but during the editing process too. Your senior photographer didn’t learn what they know overnight.
  • Popularity and availability. Lastly, how popular your senior photographer is will also play a role in the price. While not all photographers charge more based on this fact, it can sometimes be a factor. The number of senior photographers that are in your city can also play a role in the cost. Again, some photographers can alter costs based on demand. 

The bottom line is that senior photographer rates will differ based on various factors. With a little research, you can easily find a senior photography package that suits your budget. A couple of good things to keep in mind are that good photos aren't cheap and cheap photos aren't good! Also, you get what you pay for!

It’s highly recommended that you don’t skip capturing this important milestone if you can help it – these are photos you will look back on for a lifetime.
