Which Season Is Right for Your Senior Session?

There is no right or wrong answer to which season is best for a senior photo session. It all comes down to your personal preferences as well as your availability.

As you plan your photoshoot, here are a few things to consider when deciding which season is right for you.

Summer

The weather will be hotter than usual so be prepared for the fact that you might sweat a little, depending on the location you decide on. Scheduling your shoot at a cooler time of the day will help with this. The heat in Las Vegas is absolutely no joke, so be prepared. Shooting in the early morning (sunrise) is usually the coolest time of the day.
Shooting in summer means you get to take full advantage of fun skirts and dresses. Just be sure you choose light, airy fabrics that won’t add to the heat.
For summer senior sessions, you will have lots of green, colorful backdrops to work with, so choose your outfit accordingly.
Keep in mind that you will be taking photos several months before your graduation, so make sure that you’re happy with your hairstyle and the theme of your shoot. You want to make sure your photos will still be a true representation of who you are when you graduate.

Fall

Fall tends to be a popular month for senior shoots because it’s not too hot, but not too cold either. You also get to take advantage of the beautiful yellow, red, and orange tones around you, so consider an outdoor shoot.
If you’re a fan of jackets, scarves, boots, and warm tones, fall is definitely the ideal season for your shoot. And because the weather won’t be too cold yet, you can still pair warmer items with more transitional items like skirts.
Booking your senior session in the fall also means you should take daylight savings into consideration as it will change the timing of your shoot.

Winter

Winter can be a tricky time of year to shoot because you can’t always be sure what the weather will do. However, having a backup indoor location can counteract this. On the plus side, senior photographers aren’t as busy during the winter season, so you will probably have more dates to choose from.
Shooting your senior photos in winter means you can take advantage of beautiful sweaters, coats, and boots for your shoot. Think bright reds, metallics, and snow-white colors. These colors will also stand out against the more neutral backgrounds that winter brings.
If you’ve always envisioned a moodier theme for your senior photos, this is the ideal season.

Spring

Spring is another popular season for senior sessions because the weather is once again not too hot or too cold. The only consideration, depending on the exact month you book your shoot, is that there is always a chance of rain.
When it comes to what you can wear, spring senior sessions are all about fun textures and patterns. Light and pastel colors work really well during this season regardless of whether you’re shooting indoors or outside.
If you do opt for an outdoor session during spring, find a spot where flowers are blooming, and trees are blossoming for the perfect backdrop.
Since Spring is a popular season, you want to make sure you’re booking your session in advance, particularly if you also want custom prints.
